Lelant

Lelant is in a beautiful setting, overlooking the Hayle Estuary with its veritable wealth of bird life that draws birdwatchers from far afield.  Lelant Saltings is one of the stops on the St Ives Branchline, an ideal chance to Park and Ride into St Ives and Carbis Bay. 

Lelant itself boasts a lovely beach of golden sand, some wonderful walks, a charming area with a number of pubs, restaurants, B&B's and self-catering accommodation. Lelant is a lovely base for a holiday to either enjoy the immediate locality or explore West Cornwall.

Rosamunde Pilcher, the famous author, was born in Lelant in 1924 and is best known for her book Shell Seekers which topped the bestseller list in New York.  Shell Seekers was filmed in 1998 on location at Lands End, Lamorna Cove and Marazion and starred Angela Lansbury and Patricia Hodge.  Rosamund Pilcher was created an Officer of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 2002.  Her works are extremely popular in Germany and many of her novels, many of which are set in Cornwall, have been turned into films and have been filmed in the area.
